Your employer paying for it is money out of your pocket. And it traps you in your job cause if you quit, there goes your insurance. Universal healthcare would be cheaper (yes, actually) and more convenient than what we have now

For those saying universal healthcare sucks I want to point out that waitlists for proceedures, doctors visits, and drug approvals are 3x longer in the us then any country with universal healthcare and the expense averages 4 thousand times as much.
I was having a heart issue. I'm in NJ. I had to wait 3 months to get tested. I don't believe the propaganda that insurance companies teach about universal healthcare. There is literally no reason for health insurance companies to exist. Especially when they can deny coverage that DOCTORS have say is necessary for patients.
The US is the only "first world" country that doesn't... Many third world countries have it.

You obviously have never experienced American healthcare. The American healthcare system is the most expensive in the world and yields some of the worst outcomes in the developed world
I’m in healthcare and I speak to MANY physicians overseas. There healthcare is awful, Cary secondary private insurance policies. People can’t get seen in a reasonable time and Drs make shit money so you aren’t getting quality physicians.
“I’m in healthcare” isn’t evidence. Anecdotes from doctors overseas don’t erase the actual data. No one is saying universal healthcare systems are perfect. They have wait times and funding issues. But the U.S. has wait times plus denials, medical debt, people rationing meds, people avoiding care, and coverage tied to employment. Also, “carry private insurance” doesn’t disprove universal healthcare. Lots of countries have universal baseline coverage plus optional supplemental insurance. My point isn’t “copy one country exactly.” It’s that the U.S. pays the most and still underperforms. That is indefensible.

The VA is not universal healthcare. It’s one specific system for veterans, and experiences vary a lot. Also, our current system is already shit. People avoid care, ration meds, go into debt, and lose coverage when they lose jobs. “The VA has issues” doesn’t prove private insurance is better. It proves healthcare systems need funding, staffing, and reform.
