The God from the Bible is NOT good and loving. I could NEVER be a Christian again.
I'm not religious but I was raised as a Christian and I don't know what the fuck it is they teach you in America but it certainly isn't what the preach elsewhere

Well while admit it might be a bit of a "I'm spending too much time on the internet" kinda deal, I get the impression that Christianity in America has a lot of ties with some quite judgemental and bigoted teachings. From both what people say about Christianity and what some people claim to be saying in the name of Christianity. And it couldn't be further from the kind of things I was taught as a kid
I’m not basing this on American Christians being judgmental or bigoted. I’m talking about the actual biblical portrayal of God: genocide, collective punishment, slavery, killing children, sexual violence, etc. and whether those actions are compatible with calling that God “good and loving.” I was a Christian for 25 years and had years of theology/Bible education. “God is good” and “God is love” absolutely were central teachings. My disagreement now isn’t that Christianity taught me God was evil; it’s that after examining the text, I no longer think the actions attributed to him fit the qualities Christianity taught me he has.
You were probably never really Christian to begin with. Good and loving God was never the point, you'd know that if you knew the theology deeper than a leaflet.

The Bible literally says “God is love,” “the Lord is good to all,” and “no one is good except God alone.” God’s goodness and love are foundational Christian teachings, not some surface-level leaflet theology. I was a Christian for 25 years. Disagree with my conclusion if you want, but pretending Christianity doesn’t teach that God is good and loving is bizarre
You're arguing with something I didn't actually say. I never said Christianity doesn't teach that God is good and loving. I said that isn't the point of being a Christian. If that's all you were ever sold, then yeah, you got the leaflet. That's not really your fault
I didn’t say “Christianity exists solely to teach that God is nice.” I said I could never be Christian again because I no longer believe the God described in the Bible is good or loving. That matters quite a lot when Christianity explicitly teaches that God is good, is love, is worthy of worship, and is the ultimate moral authority. If I conclude those claims are false based on the character and actions attributed to him in the Bible, that’s not “leaflet theology.” That’s a disagreement with foundational claims about the God Christianity asks me to worship.

See the thing is he is loving the issue we have is other people are evil and use Christianity for their own evil ends
