Dear men: If I woman asks what do you do for work, do you automatically assume she’s calculating and judging your salary?

by Spruce_Goose · 5 hearts

Yeah probably a little judgement, but also curious about my profession is reasonable too.

by AmericanRose · 4 hearts

Interesting. I’ve never once considered that when I ask. I’m genuinely interested in what people do.

by RBF Life · 3 hearts

That sounds like something insecure men would think.

A woman who is financially secure isn’t necessarily looking for your salary; she may simply want to know who you are and what you do. I value ambition, stability, and compatibility not someone’s paycheck. I can stand on my own, but I still appreciate a man who has his own goals.

by blue_lagoon- · 2 hearts

From a woman: dude I don’t care what your salary is. I just wanna know if your job is cool

by County Man · 2 hearts

Yes That's why when females ask me that. I just tell her that I am just a poor simple farmer/rancher/homesteader

by WhippedNcreamy · 0 hearts

Won't you catch more women that way? Farming is expensive as fuckkk

by County Man · 0 hearts

Nope These days females don't want to live out in the countryside on a homestead. They don't want to leave the comfort and convenience of the big city.

Maybe girls in their 20s...

It's the most basic question for getting to know someone. What do they do with the majority of their time?

by Material_Grrrl · 2 hearts

Y’all gotta get that paranoia checked out frens that’s literally been basic socialization for decades over.

by Rhetorical · 2 hearts

I am.so thankful I don't have to date anymore! Can't even ask a basic question without the person assuming something bad.

by red_ox · 2 hearts

No, it's the nature of the follow up questions that could reveal that

by Dadbaldguy · 2 hearts

Depends when it’s asked. If it’s one of the first questions she ever asks, she’s judging you either consciously or subconsciously, if it comes later then she’s just curious. Treat it like the “how many people have you slept with” question.

by gray_duke · 2 hearts

I take it as “can you provide financial security for me”, I don’t have a problem with that.

by Truthhurtsbtch · 0 hearts

Exactly how I view it when a man ask me. He Looking for a roommate.

by ꧁⋆ScoobyJew⋆꧂ · 1 heart

The world has become too woke if women can't ask that anymore.

by ThinkTwice · 1 heart

You mean she's not? Cool story

by AmericanRose · 0 hearts

I can speak for myself. I am not.

by ThinkTwice · 0 hearts

Exception, rule...something or other.

by Secretkeep · 1 heart

Yes

by JCP1013 · 1 heart

Yep, depends on the vibe though and how soon they ask me.

by NedFlandersSimp · 0 hearts

That part. Context is important. Especially if you ask her what she does and she asks you back. If she doesn’t ask you back at that point she’s just not showing interest in you.

by BUTTHOLINATOR · 1 heart

Well yeah, when I ask them their weight and how often they work out in calculating whether they clunge is worth the effort

by NedFlandersSimp · 0 hearts

Hey, if you can ask about a woman’s weight, I can ask about your salary. It’s only fair. Lol. Not that I do that, I’m just saying.

by Wish________1 · 1 heart

I want a real life Nikki from movie obsession

by Little bit · 1 heart

As a woman. No that’s not what I’m doing. I’m trying to figure out how smart of a man I’m dealing with and what he knows how to do so I know what handyman numbers I need to save

by Hey- you · 1 heart

Depends on the scenario and how she's carrying herself

by NedFlandersSimp · 0 hearts

That part. Context is important. If asking your job is her first message I would be a little suspicious, but if let’s say you ask what she does first and she responds by asking what you do, that’s completely fine

by Hey- you · 1 heart

If it naturally comes up in flow, yes. But rushed/forced, bad

by sky blue_thistle · 1 heart

No this is basic conversation. Everyone asks that. Im sure some are calculating that. I earn a comfortable blue collar income. If thats not good enough for them good riddance. I could understand a woman not wanting a bum who works part time at a gas station for. $350/wk

by -WisDOM- · 1 heart

Not even a little. I see it as a genuine question. What someone does for a living says a lot about someones temperament and character. And women have to always try and figure out how safe they are with you. Its the nature of the beast

by Truthhurtsbtch · 0 hearts

Thats how I feel when a man ask if I work or what I do for work tells me a lot about their character. A man who has his shit together will never worry or care to pocket watch the next women cause there will be nothing he will need/want from her. Only broke men care about that

by Pixie Styx · 1 heart

I mean I just ask it to get to know someone. I'm not even looking for a nesting partner

by SciGuy · 1 heart

Absolutely. Women do it so often I doubt they're even conscious of why they're actually doing it.

by AmericanRose · 2 hearts

I do it because I’m generally interested in what they do.

by WhippedNcreamy · 0 hearts

So... what do you do for work?

by Way_of_Thinking · 0 hearts

Nope
