In a wilderness survival situation how long do you think you can survive with just the things you carry on an everyday hike

Id survive a while just from the fat stored in my body

Im prepared in similar fashion

Well, I did an overnighter with just the clothes on my back to earn my Wilderness Survival merit badge, so my answer is at least one.

Last time I went on a hike all I took was beer so I'm pretty sure I'm fucked

I don't go on "Everyday hikes." And if we have access to vehicles that makes it a little better in my case because I already have a bug out bag and supplies. I could realistically last a few months as I've been actively homeless before and had to survive so yeah depending on my weaponry and whatnot a few months to a few years. Potentially, barring any variables that might get me killed like hostile people or useless people.

Awesome

At most, maybe a few days. And that's just because I have some extra jiggle to keep me going. I don't really have any survival skills 😅

by indigo_crab · 1 heart

Even a couple days could be enough

by 🙄psyquack3000 · 1 heart

30 or 40 years

Everyday carry probs like a few days

I know how to forage, so I could last awhile.

Foraging is a great skill

It is a fun one too, my average hike has a bunch of supplies with me, plus a phone with battery packs so I'd also be able to get out with the basic Google maps compass, especially since most wilderness areas have trails on maps, plus the knowledge on how to start a fire and make basic shelter

Do you carry any kind of signaling tool i carry a whistle for the purpose

by yourrealdad · 1 heart

May i ask is it a lack of supplies or skill set for wilderness survival

by ☠️☠️NOPICS☠️☠️ · 0 hearts

All of the above

Do you enjoy hiking

by Nomanslands · 1 heart

I hike to make it one night every time so one night possibly 2-3 if I realize I have to stretch and try supplementing my water supply by making a fire and boiling water

by indigo_crab · 0 hearts

Sounds reasonable do you carry any emergency survival equipment

by Nomanslands · 1 heart

Depending on where I hike yes - most important is to bring a tarp/tent (tarps fold up better and are easy to carry if you’re only planning to use it for emergencies ) - right clothing and dry spare set in a water tight plastic bag, one emergency blanket, one metal pot so you can boil water, a proper lighter or two and a properly charged flashlight along with a first aid kit and multi tool knife. If hiking very remotely flare gun.
