I don’t understand the hate. Helen of Troy is a fictional character of ambiguous ethnicity to begin with. What does it matter what color person plays her?
There are only two places where they really talk about what she really looks like. So they had a lot of wiggle room. The only physical descriptions were that she was "lovely-haired" and "white-armed." The later saying that she had pale skin and never worked.
I mean most of us just mildly complain and don't go see the movie because we like accuracy to the original text. The odyssey was kind of vague on how she looked but it explicitly did state white armed and lovely haired. I was just asking upset with casting for plenty of movies that picked a white guy that didnt look like the white guy in the books, example would be Richard in the TV show they made for stone of truth. Or shot even Tom Cruise in jack reacher.

Helen of Troy was played by a black woman in the Xena Warrior Princess show and nobody gave a single fuck. Same with Brandy playing Cinderella with an Asian prince who's mother was Whoopi Goldberg. The question is why do people care NOW and not then.
Not as much as you think. Helen of troy is supposed to have beauty that many kings would go to war over. The casting is definitely an acquired taste that not every king of Greece would go to war over. Especially given the beauty standards of ancient Greece.
