We don’t force any other marginalized group to state their identity 'up front' to avoid being attacked, because the law recognizes that bias is not a valid defense for violence. Allowing this loophole to exist simply lets unadulterated bigotry and jury bias into the courtroom, meaning LGBTQ+ people literally have less legal protection. Beyond that, the logic is totally hypocritical. Transphobic people constantly claim that they can 'always tell' when someone is trans. But the second a violent crime happens, they change their tune and claim they 'panicked' because they couldn't tell. You can't have it both ways. A victim's existence is not a legal justification for a killer's violence, period.

The lgbt panic defense is a legal defense strategy for murderers. They claim that upon learning the victim was lgbt, they snapped into a violent rage, implying that the victim's identity is somehow provocation enough to justify or lower murder to manslaughter. It's not legal to use similar defenses, at least in the us, against other groups, like people of color. If it's another group, it's automatically rejected by the court due to laws banning that kind of defense. But for lgbt people, it's still legal to use their identity as an excuse for murder because of bias and bigotry.

What right is being removed?
We are the only group that is legally made into a provocation for violence and murder. You cannot use other identities (ie black, woman, Jewish, etc) as a justification for murder. We literally don't have the same equal protections that everyone else does.

Not true at all. The murderer of Daniel Spencer used it successfully in 2018 to get only 6 months in prison and 10 years probation. Also, you are not legally allowed to use panic of someone's identity unless they are specifically lgbt. That's discrimination and legalized lethal bigotry.
