Not sure why USA has such a big issue with this. The only way to get rich there is to explot people, climb on their backs and use them by not paying a living wage, not paying for sick days and so on. The decent employers never make it big because they value the employees. So sad really

The cost of goods must come down because raising minimum wage just means more inflation

Yup. That's what it used to be. It was enough to afford everything you needed: clothes, food, shelter, transportation, basic items for children. Yeah, you had to budget, but you could do it. Now it doesn't even really pay for gas

I think the whole point of the post is to apply that minimum wage should be a living wage in that everything should be adjusted accordingly. Not the logistics of what’s gonna happen since we’ve been seen it for years. But yk
Prices increase wether minimum wage goes up or not. It's called inflation. If minimum wage doesn't follow inflation then they are technically getting a pay decrease staying at the same wage

Yeah…where? Cost of living varies from place to place. A living wage should cover the basics: small studio, utilities, groceries, transportation, phone with internet, healthcare etc in the area

Living wage is a very vague definition. Some people can survive on current living wage, other can’t make ends meet making 100k+
A living wage is not “whatever someone personally manages to survive on.” It is a location and household specific estimate of the cost of basic necessities. Someone earning $100k but overspending does not make the definition vague; it means their spending exceeds their needs.

If only, but not all businesses are huge corporations that can afford to absorb the increased cost of wages or the implications thereof. The firm I work for can afford to pay me a good wage simply because our industry is lucrative but even then there can be limitations, the reasons of which are too complex to list in a single reply. Either way, I wish things were more binary but they're not.
