Had someone tell me on here being religious doesn’t “make me a good person“………. well it makes me better than an athiest on some level because atleast there’s a foundation for my morality

The fact that you need a fictional book to ground your morality instead of just being a good empathetic person is worse

by Gold eloper2 · 0 hearts

You have no standard to discern what is right or wrong

by Dig Bick Diff · 2 hearts

Of course, humans need a book to realise murder is wrong, no cognitive functions could possibly be used to come to that conclusion without a novel to refer to

You think that religion is a book telling you not to kill people?

So when the god of the bible ordered stoning of girl's after their wedding nights if they didn't bleed, gave the rules on how to keep and beat slaves or commanded mass genocide including kids, was that right because it had a "foundation"?

I’m Not Christian but like I said I would simply say real scripture in the context of the book whose stoning girls after their wedding night if they don’t bleed ?

Have you considered that a book that had values that mostly became prominent post enlightment era wouldn't be accepted in ancient times? If you think people in most of the world of not all of it would see "no slaves, democracy is good, give women the same rights as men" and not promptly throw the book away, you're unaware of how "enlightened" humanity was at the time.

Honestly, I'd actually argue it's logically the other way around. Your statement implies that A, you wouldn't know right from wrong without somebody else telling you, and B, you don't think anybody else does, either. Not to mention the assumption that atheists haven't studied ethics or anything, and have no rationality or basis for how they act?

by Gold eloper2 · 0 hearts

You wouldn’t children are taught right and wrong from their parents and they carry those ethics into their decisions later in life yes there objective moral principles but if there’s universal truths we instinctually know then that proves gods existence cause why do we know this without being taught

by blue_veal · 0 hearts

You're working backwards from your conclusion. You're stating god existing as your presupposition, and therefore there's no other possible way anything could have happened.

How did the universe begin without any start ?

by Blue_timings · 2 hearts

I get the idea of what you're saying, but it would be more correct to say it makes you not rational...it still doesn't make you better than the atheist

by orchid_saving · 1 heart

If you believe that makes you better then that doesn't actually make you better, like believing in God doesn't make them real

by Prima Macula · 0 hearts

And not believing in god doesn’t mean they’re not real either

Your foundation is based on a fairytale no different than Santa clause and easter bunny

by Gold eloper2 · 1 heart

That’s a cope , because you Damn well know organized religion is an entire belief system and guideline to follow in life to call it Santa clause just shows ur a bitter athiest who worships his own desires rather than live in balance follow God
