The dad is being controlling. Kids get so little choices growing up, let her have control over her clothes/look. Yknow as long as it’s appropriate and safe. I had two older siblings that were VERY emo and scene. Our step dad would always be a bully, but our mom was supportive.

My parents were like this. My mom supported my alt style, my dad did not. I the end, he won, but I just kept those clothes at my best friends house and would change there. It also led to me being miserable at ho e and out with family and I would try to push it as far as I could. Its clothing, not drugs and hookers. He's gotta accept shes not gonna stay a little girl forever and she has her own thoughts and expressions
