I used to be pro-life. Then I had a planned, wanted pregnancy, and it still came with pain, risk, trauma, recovery, and permanent consequences. That experience made me realize how cruel it is to force that on someone who does not consent to it. Denying someone access to your body is bodily autonomy. No human has the right to use another human’s body parts to save or maintain their own life. We don’t force blood or organ donation (even when people need them to live), so it’s illogical and inconsistent to force a woman to give her body and organs to maintain the life of a fetus.
